Gerald Everett is someone to keep a close eye on this offseason. The LA Chargers need to free up over $20 million in cap space and Gerald Everett presents an opportunity to free up some cap space.

According to Over The Cap, the Chargers can free up $4.25 million by cutting Everett. However, the team can free up even more money if they trade Everett, freeing up $5.75 million. That $1.5 million may not seem that important but it could make a massive difference.

If the Chargers are planning on taking one of the elite tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft then it may suit them to trade Everett for any kind of late-round capital that they can get. Back in 2020, the Falcons traded a second and fifth-round pick for Hayden Hurst and a fourth-round pick. With that value in mind, it is not crazy to think that the Chargers could get a sixth-round pick for Everett.

3 teams the Chargers should call for a Gerald Everett trade:

1. New York Giants

The New York Giants are fresh off of a playoff berth that even saw the team beat the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card Round. New York is establishing a very strong foundation but the team so desperately needs offensive wepaons.

Tight end is one of those offensive weapons of need and Everett could represent a cheap stop-gap option to give the Giants a one-year option for the time being. New York has other, more pressing needs in the draft, so drafting one of the elite tight ends is likely out of the picture.

New York has the cap space to easily absorb Everett and they have the draft capital to trade without batting an eye. The Giants have three picks in the sixth and seventh round this year.
