The LA Chargers started the season with very few injuries. Outside of DJ Chark JR. being put on the IR, the Chargers did not have to deal with any injuries to starting-caliber players against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The same cannot be said as the team prepares for its Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Los Angeles' injury report is much lengthier heading into Week 2 than it was in Week 1. Not only are there more injuries, but several key players are missing practice altogether.

Where one door closes another opens and while it is a bummer to see the Chargers more banged up heading into Week 2, it does create oppurtunities for several rookies who did not get the same opportunities in Week 1.

Several Chargers rookies are set up to make NFL debuts in Week 2

The Chargers had to make several prominent rookies from the 2024 draft class inactive in Week 1 since the team was not dealing with a long list of injuries. Those same rookies who were healthy scratches in Week 1 will likely suit up in Week 2.

Fourth-round pick Justin Eboigbe may end up getting activated as a result of Joey Bosa missing practice and potentially missing Sunday's game. Eboigbe is an interior defensive linemen who may see some kind of snap share with one fewer edge-rusher active on game day. With Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu and Bud Dupree all still healthy, the Chargers can manage an edge room with just three players for one game.

Fifth-round pick Tarheeb Still did not play in Week 1 due to a lingering hip injury that is no longer an issue heading into Week 2. Not only might he play but he could be thrust into a starting role if Ja'Sir Taylor, who has missed both practices this week, does not play.

There are veteran options like Deane Leonard and Elijah Molden who can help make up the difference of not having Taylor but if the team is looking for a true slot corner to play in place of Taylor then Still is the guy.

Running back Kimani Vidal could be active as the third running back with Hassan Haskins being limited in both practices this week. Vidal has way more upside as an offensive weapon but Haskins is far more advanced in special teams, which is why he was active in Week 1 in place of Vidal.

Finally, seventh-round pick Brenden Rice could even be active for the first time in his NFL career if Joshua Palmer is unable to suit up. Rice may not get much playing time if he is active, but he would essentially become the second-string X receiver behind Simi Fehoko if Palmer, who has been limited in practice, cannot play.

Injuries are always going to be a part of the NFL season and thankfully, the Chargers are in a better position to plug in the gaps than they have been in years past.
