Chargers could draft Trey Benson to help at running back
Running back is a big need for the Chargers but it definitely is not a first-round need. There are too many holes on this roster to justify taking a running back in a round where running backs are hardly taken.
There is still a long time until the 2024 NFL Draft but it does not appear that there are any first-round running backs in the class. There is time for these prospects to move up but it looks like the earliest a running back will go is the middle of the second round.
If there is a prospect the Chargers really love in that spot they should not hesitate to take them. However, it still might be more likely that the team takes a tight end in round two and saves running back for the third round.
Regardless, one running back that the Chargers could target in the draft is Florida State's Trey Benson. Benson is among the best running backs in the class and might just take a second-round pick for the Chargers to secure him.
Benson has been an absolute force for two seasons now at Florida State. In his two years with the Seminoles, he has carried the ball 310 times for 1,895 yards (6.1 yards per carry) with 23 touchdowns. He has also added 371 receiving yards on 33 receptions with one touchdown.
If the Chargers are simply looking for the most productive collegiate running back that can jump in and take on a big work load in his rookie season then Benson might just be the guy.
