Oddsmakers buying Chargers as a playoff team in opening odds for 2024 NFL season

Breaking down the Chargers' latest odds to make the NFL Playoffs after the first few weeks of the offseason.

It's a new era in Los Angeles. Brandon Staley is out and Jim Harbaugh, fresh off a National Championship with Michigan, is in as the Chargers' new head coach.

Not only do they have a new head coach, but a handful of players who have become synonymous with the Chargers are with new teams now including Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler.

While this may point to a rebuild for the team, oddsmakers aren't quite convinced the Chargers may take a step back this season. In fact, they think they may even take a step forward and return to the playoffs.

DraftKings Sportsbook has released odds for all 32 teams to make the 2024 postseason. Let's take a look.

Chargers Odds to Make NFL Playoffs

The odds listed below are via DraftKings Sportsbook.

It's a near coin flip, but oddsmakers have the Chargers set as slight favorites to make the postseason in 2024. If you translate -115 odds to implied probability, they have a 53.49% chance of making the playoffs.

This may come as a pleasant surprise to Chargers fans after the team cleaned house. With that being said, they managed to snag the top available coaching prospect in Harbaugh and still have an elite quarterback in Justin Herbert. As we've seen plenty of times before, a great coach and an elite quarterback can be more than enough for a team to make the playoffs.

Let's also remember the Chargers currently hold the No. 5 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. They have several different ways they can go with that pick, including drafting an offensive lineman, acquiring a receiver, or even trading down to bulk up on more picks.

Whatever they decide to do, they'll be an improved team in the draft concludes. Will it be improved enough to make the playoffs? Time will tell.
