The LA Chargers went through a lot of change this offseason as the team looked to build on the positive things from last season and fix the negative things. While the core of the team is the same, the supporting cast around the core has several new faces.
The Chargers had a lot of cap space to utilize with so many expiring contracts this offseason. And to make the 2021 team look even worse, there are quite a few notable players who are still without a team this late in the offseason.
There is no better indication of the talent (or lack thereof) that the Chargers had on the roster last season when there are six notable players from last year's team that still have not signed with a team.
Here are the six notable former Chargers who are still without a team:
Justin Jackson
Justin Jackson always showed signs of potentially and had some big moments and games throughout his Chargers career. Last season he had the longest run of the year for the Chargers against the Patriots and had a massive game in the loss to the Houston Texans.
Jackson has never been able to stay healthy so the promise that he showed on the field did not matter. The Chargers opted to move on to Isaiah Spiller to be the RB2 and no team has given Jackson a shot with a contract.
You cannot blame a team for passing on Jackson when they can either sign a more reliable option for the same cost in free agency or draft a running back in the late rounds that has far few miles on their legs.
Jackson should find a home at some point this season considering teams always go through running back depth issues. However, as it stands right now, Jackson merely seems to be a break glass in case of emergency option for NFL teams instead of a tangible option for a running back rotation.
