Future HOF DT could be a nice FA pickup for Chargers' defense
By Mike Luciano
The Los Angeles Chargers may not be in the market for a player like DeAndre Hopkins, but that doesn't mean they should completely neglect the idea of adding a veteran who can aid them in their quest for a championship. The defense should take priority here.
While LA did draft a local standout in Tuli Tuipulotu, that is not going to be enough to fix the team's defensive line depth completely. One player who could be the shot in the arm this team needs, all without breaking the bank, is an all-time great defensive tackle in Ndamukong Suh.
Before Suh ends up in Canton, he could try to earn one last Super Bowl ring. After finally cashing in with Tampa Bay in 2020 and making it to the Super Bowl again last season as a backup with Philadelphia, Suh has shown enough skill to warrant a spot in LA's rotation.
Can the Los Angeles Chargers sign Ndamukong Suh?
Suh is just one year removed from piling up 26 tackles and six sacks for the Buccaneers. With Suh playing a role as a backup on a stacked Eagles defensive line, he was unable to flex his muscles as much. That doesn't mean that his play has eroded to the point he is unplayable.
Suh is still a disruptor on the inside, even if the Detroit and Miami days are gone. He can eat up space if you need him to, but his power, tenacity, and veteran leadership will help Tuipulotu and the rest of the Chargers' new-look line mesh in Brandon Staley's defense.
Suh will likely only consider teams that can get him a legitimate shot at a championship. While LA has some flaws, joining a team with a premier quarterback like Justin Herbert and playmakers like Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa in the same front seven might help him get more 1-on-1 situations.
Suh is ring-chasing, and the aura of Herbert might be so strong that the former Lions great could be enticed to potentially finish his career in LA. Perhaps if Trevor Lawrence was pressured from the interior by a veteran player like Suh more, the 27-0 choke doesn't happen.
