The LA Chargers selected Nasir Adderley in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The third cousin of Hall of Famer Herb Adderley, there were some high expectations for the athletic free safety when he came into the league with the Bolts.
His tenure with the team was up in down and he came into the league at a truly odd time. His rookie season was plagued by injuries, his second season was hampered by a global pandemic and then his third season witnessed a massive coaching overhaul.
There was little to no stability for Adderley while he was with the Chargers and at such a young age, there was some expectation that he could find a new team this offseason and live up to the high potential that he flashed while wearing the powder blue.
However, that is not going to be the case as Adderley decided that he is going to step away from the game of football, announcing his decision with an Instragram post.
Former Chargers safety Nasir Adderley retires after four years.
This is obviously a very heavy decision for any athlete to make. To walk away from the sport you have played your entire life, and the money that comes with it, is no easy task. It is even harder when you are still only 25 years old and arguably have not his your peak yet.
Adderley seems to be at peace with his decision as he transitioned into a new period of his life where he focuses on what he deems important. That is a commendable decision to make and is one that every Chargers fan has to respect.
