2. Anthony Averett vs. Mike Williams/Keenan Allen
Anthony Averett was having a really promising season for the Baltimore Ravens to start the year but was exposed pretty badly against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. The Colts targeted Averett and had a lot of success throwing his way.
One bad game does not make him a bad corner but he is going to have his hands full against the LA Chargers with Justin Herbert throwing the football. Whether he is lined up against Mike Williams or Keenan Allen, he is going to be lined up against one of the best receivers in the league.
Marlon Humphrey is a very talented cornerback and while he has not been playing as good as he typically does thus far this season, he is still in his athletic prime and should not be slept on. While I like the Chargers' chances to get yardage against Humphrey, the team will be throwing to the other side of the field more than they will be throwing at Humphrey.
The great part about Williams' breakout this season is that the Chargers have two legitimate WR1 and that one of them has to be lined up against the CB2 in Averett. I would bet that Baltimore tries to put Humphrey on Allen as much as possible while doubling things over the top against Williams but as we have seen this season, Williams is so much more than a deep threat.
If Averett can buckle down, return to form and have the best game of his young career then the Chargers are going to struggle a bit more moving the football than they did last week against the Cleveland Browns.
However, if Averett plays as he did against the Colts then we could see another offensive onslaught by Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
