Comparing the LA Chargers offense and Washington Football Team defense:
Defensive line: Advantage, Washington Football Team
The defensive lines are not completely comparable as the Chargers are running a 3-4 defense in 2021 and Washington is running a 4-3 defense. For the sake of the argument, we are considering the Chargers' front five vs. Washington's front four.
Joey Bosa is the best of the bunch but he might not be for long. As good as Bosa is and while he could win the Defensive Player of the Year, so could Chase Young, so that is definitely something to watch.
The Chargers are fine on the rest of the defensive line while Washington has one of the best defensive lines in football.
Linebackers: Advantage, Washington Football Team
Look, I really like Kenneth Murray and the potential of Murray, Drue Tranquill and Kyzir White is really promising. In six weeks' time, they might have proven they are the better linebacker group than Washington. But as it stands right now, that is not a guarantee.
Murray was solid in his rookie season but still needs to take that step up to be a Pro Bowl-caliber linebacker. White and Tranquill both have a ton of potential but thus far that potential is simply just potential.
You can make the same case about Jamin Davis, who was picked in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. His potential is higher than White's, though. Cole Holcomb is an established, solid linebacker while Jon Bostic is great as well.
Cornerbacks: Advantage, LA Chargers
The cornerbacks in Washington are not that great and even though Asante Samuel Jr. is still unproven and Michael Davis needs to continue his upwards trajectory they still get the nod.
Chris Harris is a good depth piece and at worst the Chargers should be on par with Washington while having the higher ceiling.
Safeties: Advantage, LA Chargers
Landon Collins just is not the same player anymore and even though he missed last season Derwin James projects to be a top-10 safety in the NFL at worst.
There are question marks around the rest of the safety position, most notably if Nasir Adderley can improve in year three. However, Bobby McCain is not good enough to swing it back in Washington's favor.
