LA Chargers: Fans can cash in on Brandon Staley's defense with great odds in 2021
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers hired Brandon Staley to take over after the Anthony Lynn experience came to a crashing, burning end. Staley was coming off of his first season as a coordinator, piloting the Los Angeles Rams to have the best defense in the league.
It is safe to say that most fans were not that happy when the hiring was made as many wanted to see an offensive-minded head coach hire, such as Brian Daboll, to maximize Justin Herbert.
However, fans quickly realized how polished Staley was not only as a talker, but as someone who understands the game of football. Even before coaching a single game most Charger fans bought in as it was extremely easy to do so.
Fans have since gotten a taste of what the defense will look like in 2021 in two preseason games. While it was mostly backups for both teams across the board, the Chargers have only allowed a combined 21 points in two preseason games thus far.
The schemes seem to be working and with superstar talents such as Joey Bosa and Derwin James, the LA Chargers can recreate what Staley created with the Los Angeles Rams last season.
Fans can cash in on the new-look LA Chargers defense by betting them to allow the fewest points scored in 2021.
Our friends over at WynnBET have a futures bet out about what defense in the NFL will allow the fewest points in 2021. While there are a lot of great defenses, it is hard to not love the potential payout and opportunity that betting the Chargers presents.
The Chargers have the seventh-best odds in the league, one behind the Los Angeles Rams, and are coming in at +1700 (17/1 odds). That means that for every dollar you bet you win 17 dollars in return. A $100 bet pays out $1,700 ($1,800 in total counting the initial $100 bet).

That is absurd value for the head coach that turned the Rams from a league-average defense into the best defense. While the players on the Rams certainly deserve credit, it was mostly the same unit that bought into Staley's philosophy.
The Chargers can be just as good as the Rams and have the talent to do so. They have two stars in Joey Bosa and Derwin James. A solid cornerback room led by two young studs in Michael Davis and Asante Samuel. A three-headed monster at linebacker of Kenneth Murray, Drue Tranquill and Kyzir White.
This is a really talented defense and the Chargers are probably the best bet of anyone in the league. Yes, I will concede that it is more likely that Baltimore or Washington allows fewer points. That being said, their odds are +750 and +1100, respectively.
In terms of value, the best bet might be the Chargers at +1700.
