1. Kansas City Chiefs

I hate to say it, but I absolutely loved the class that the Kansas City Chiefs put together in the 2022 NFL Draft. While they are still going to be less talented than they have been in previous years by losing Tyreek Hill, Tyrann Mathieu and others, the team did a great job in drafting and should have landed the next core to develop to replace those guys.

Kansas City moved up in the first round to select Trent McDuffie with the 21st overall pick. McDuffie is who I personally thought the Chargers were going to land and while there are absolutely no complaints about Zion Johnson, there would not have been any complaints about McDuffie, either.

McDuffie is a talented, versatile cornerback who is going to help patch up some of the holes in Kansas City's secondary that were caused by departing free agents. He may not be a CB1 right away, but he has legitimate CB1 potential.

Then with the 30th pick in the draft the Chiefs drafted one of the better edge rushers in the class in George Karlaftis. Thankfully, Jermaine Johnson did not fall all the way to 30 but the Chiefs still have to view Karlaftis as the realistic best-case scenario for them in a first-round edge rusher.

With the 54th pick, the team took Skyy Moore, who is just such a perfect fit in this receiving corps to replace Tyreek Hill (he obviously is not going to be as good as Hill, especially not right away). I thought Moore was such a perfect fit for Kansas City that I mocked him to go there in the first round. They landed him in the second.

Bryan Cook was taken with the 62nd pick. This is my least favorite of the Chiefs' early picks as the ceiling is not as high but he does have a higher floor. Then Kansas City went and landed one of the best coverage linebackers in the draft in Leo Chenal, which was frustrating.

Of the late round picks, landing Darian Kinnard in the fifth was fantastic value for KC. It looks like the Chiefs not only had the best draft class of the entire AFC West (Chargers included) but are one of the better teams in the league.
