Grading the Chargers' 2022 draft class one year later
By Jason Reed
Jamaree Salyer, pick 195: A+
This is easily the best pick that the LA Chargers made in the 2022 NFL Draft and is one of the best value selections of the entire draft. Jamaree Salyer somehow fell to the sixth round after being projected to potentially be a day two pick.
The craziest part about Salyer is that we would not have known that he was such a great pick if it was not for Slater's injury. This opened the door for Salyer to play left tackle and while he was not Slater, he was still great and surprised a lot of people.
Salyer saved the Chargers' season and now he is going to make up a solid starting group on the offensive line at guard.
Ja'Sir Taylor, pick 214: B+
Ja'Sir Taylor did not produce much on the defensive side of the ball as the Chargers simply did not need him to. The cornerback room played solidly and there was no need to give Taylor many snaps in the secondary.
That being said, Taylor was an extremely influential member of Ryan Ficken's special teams unit, which was one of the best in the sport last season. When Taylor did get his chance on defense late in the season he played really well, proving that there is fun potential there.
Taylor is going to have a bigger role in 2023, likely in the slot. It will be interesting to see how he develops.
