JT Woods, pick 79: F

The Chargers did not have a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft as the team traded the selection to the Chicago Bears for Khalil Mack. Thus, after watching 62 players get picked after Zion Johnson, the Bolts were finally back on the clock in the third round.

The team's selection at the time was definitely a surprising one. JT Woods was not someone who was mocked very often to the Chargers and before the draft was projected to be a fourth-round pick. The Bolts reached for him a bit because of his traits and the moldability that Brandon Staley thought he had.

There is more time for Woods to blossom into an NFL player and just because he had a bad rookie season does not mean he is set up for failure. That being said, it is impossible to give this selection anything other than an F in good faith.

Woods did not even make an impact on the team in 2022. A top-100 pick should absolutely have some kind of role on his team in his rookie season even if that role is just on special teams. Woods was not even good enough to contribute in that regard.

To make matters worse, the former Baylor safety did not look good at all in the very limited number of snaps that he did receive in his rookie year. Woods can definitely turn it around but it goes without saying that Chargers fans may not fully be buying in.
