Chargers fans should be glad Kenneth Murray is gone

Kenneth Murray was doomed from the start with the LA Chargers. The Chargers made the bold move to trade a second and third-round pick to move back into the first round to take a linebacker in an age where linebackers don't go very frequently in the first round.

Murray had to not only be a serviceable starter for the Chargers but he had to prove that he was an above-average linebacker and quickly. Anything less than that and it would have looked like a massive mismanagement of assets by the Chargers.

Unfortunately, Murray never really had a positive run with the Chargers in any capacity. He struggled to start his career but some of that was excused as he was a rookie and there is naturally going to be a learning curve for a rookie linebacker.

Then he got a new defensive-minded head coach in his sophomore season that didn't really know how to use Murray. Murray shadowed as an edge rusher after an ankle injury but that never quite worked, resulting in him moving back to inside linebacker.

Murray then got two years to start at linebacker alongside Drue Tranquill and then Eric Kendricks and he never lived up to even being an average linebacker. Murray was one of the worst starting linebackers in the sport over those two years.

Perhaps he can turn a corner in Tennessee but it was never going to happen in Los Angeles.
