The Los Angeles Chargers are in primetime once again in Week 9, and this time it’s on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets.

The Chargers are hoping to pull off a win on Monday night to move to 4-4 on the season, but the Jets (4-3) are not an easy opponent to face because of their elite defense.

Before Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury, this would have been a terrific quarterback matchup between Rodgers and Justin Herbert. Instead, we’re forced to watch Zach Wilson, who has struggled to move the Jets offense consistently this season.

Does that give the Chargers an edge in this game?

Oddsmakers sure seem to think so, as they have set Los Angeles as a road favorite in this game.

One of the hardest things to do when betting on a game is predicting the final score, but if you can do it correctly, the return can be extremely lucrative. I am eying the Chargers as the team to win this game, but by how much?

Using the latest odds for this matchup, let’s break down a potential final score for this primetime game:

Chargers vs. Jets odds, spread and total

Chargers vs. Jets final score prediction

There are a few key things to look at when betting on this game.

First off, is the New York defense which has allowed the fifth fewest points in the NFL this season. The Jets have been an UNDER bettor's dream, as they have also scored the fourth-fewest points in the league in 2023.

That’s a good sign for the Chargers, who haven’t exactly been elite on defense, ranking 31st in the NFL in yards per play allowed in 2023.

Still, I think we end up seeing a low-scoring game due to Wilson’s struggles to consistently move this offense.

As for the winner, I’m leaning toward the Chargers here because they should be able to score the ball much easier than New York. The Jets nearly lost last week to the New York Giants – who were forced to play their third-string quarterback – because they scored just 13 points in a game that went to overtime.

The Chargers should be able to score more than that, but I think this game will still be close. New York is 3-1 against the spread as a home underdog this season.

So, I’ll predict a Chargers win, but the Jets cover the three points.

Final score prediction: Chargers 17, Jets 16
