Most likely UDFAs to make Chargers roster: RB Tyler Hoosman

Many fans also expected the Chargers to draft a running back at some point in the 2023 NFL Draft. There is no telling if Austin Ekeler is going to be on the team next season and the depth behind him is not the most reliable in the world.

The chances of a UDFA being able to replace Ekeler right away is slim to none but you never know, we have seen UDFA running backs come on the team and have much bigger roles than expected. That is what could happen with Tyler Hoosman.

Hoosman is competing with Northern Colorado's Elijah Dotson for a potential roster spot on the Chargers. Dotson has more value as a receiving back and that may jump off the page first but Hoosman's potential as a between-the-tackles runner could be the difference.

Granted, the level of competition is nowhere close to the same but Hoosman but together a really exciting season for the University of North Dakota in 2022. Hoosman picked up 1,003 yards on 176 carries with 12 touchdowns. He showcased an ability to get into the endzone in short-yardage situations but still averaged 5.7 rushing yards per carry.

All it will take is a few big games for Hoosman in the preseason and he could secure his spot in the running back rotation in his rookie year. It is not like the competition is very stark heading into the 2023 campaign.
