While not every prominent player on the LA Chargers was suited up for Saturday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, there was still an exciting list of players who were scheduled to suit up for the Bolts in the preseason opener.

At the very least, Chargers fans were excited to see the rookies from the 2024 NFL Draft class who were not hurt. While preseason games are not a concrete litmus test, this first preseason game gave fans a chance to see these rookies in powder blue for the first time.

Second-round pick Ladd McConkey and sixth-round pick Kimani Vidal were both suited up pre-game and appeared as if they would see some game action against the Seahawks. That ultimately was not meant to be, however, as both players warmed up in uniform before returning to the sideline in shorts.

Chargers fans don't get to see Ladd McConkey and Kimani Vidal vs. Seahawks after all

The Chargers are very understandably playing the long game and there is no reason to put players in a position to get hurt if there is nothing to gain from it. Both McConkey and Vidal missed some practice time during training camp as they worked through their respective issues, which is likely why they did not suit up on Saturday.

Still, it is slightly disappointing to fans who wanted to see both players in action against the Seahawks. Both McConkey and Vidal may end up playing big roles on the Chargers this season and they enter as two of the most exciting rookies in the entire draft class.

Fans thought they were going to at least get a taste of what is to come in the 2024 season but it was not meant to be. McConkey and Vidal's only action from Saturday was in the pre-game so fans are going to have to wait to see what they look like in the NFL.

Fortunately, there are two more preseason games for the Chargers to play either rookie. Jim Harbaugh is not as steadfast as Brandon Staley was about not playing starters in the preseason so there is a good chance that both rookies see some kind of action before the start of the regular season.

That action just did not come against the Seahawks. Chargers fans are going to have to be patient and good things often come to those who wait.
