Chargers training camp news: Kenneth Murray sits out Tuesday with injury
By Jason Reed
LA Chargers training camp has been underway for over two weeks now and it has been mostly positive news coming out of camp. The players are looking good, Brandon Staley really seems to have a grip on this team and the rookies have been better than expected this early.
On Sunday, the Chargers held FanFest at SoFi Stadium, allowing fans to sit in and watch their Bolts at their home field for the first time. The Chargers held an intrasquad practice and there was decent fan turnout that was actually better than the turnout at Allegiant Stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders.
While it seemed to be an overall great experience, there were some players that were nicked up as a result of the contact scrimmage. Corey Linsley suffered a non-contact ankle injury and Kenneth Murray suffered a knee injury.
Linsley returned to practice on Tuesday while Murray sat out. While Brandon Staley downplayed the injury on Sunday, the second-year linebacker missing a practice might be sending panic shockwaves throughout the Charger fanbase, who know their team's injury history.
While I am no medical professional, I doubt this is anything to be really concerned about. He might miss some practices and I would not even rule out him missing the first preseason game if the team wants to really be cautious.
It just looked like a bad rolled ankle. There is no point in forcing the issue as that is when it will turn into something serious for the Chargers, which is not what the team wants.
LA Chargers training camp news: Kenneth Murray isn't the only player who sits out on Tuesday.
Kenneth Murray was the biggest name that missed practice, especially after what happened on Sunday. He was not the only Charger that sat out of practice, however.
According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Josh Palmer, Ryan Smith and Brandon Facyson were all out of practice on Tuesday. Popper also reports that Palmer is not practicing for personal reasons, not injury reasons. We wish him the best.
Christian Covington, Mark Webb and Tyron Johnson, who has arguably been the biggest standout of camp thus far, all returned to practice on Tuesday after missing time. Hopefully, Johnson can continue to build a rapport with Justin Herbert as he seems due for a breakout season.
Thus far, the Chargers have had a relatively clean bill of health in training camp and while Kenneth Murray is missing time, I would not hold your breath over it. We will update this article when we get the proper info from head coach Brandon Staley but it does not appear to be all that serious.
