Chargers training camp officially got underway on Wednesday. The journey to the Super Bowl has officially begun and Chargers fans were extremely excited to see their favorite team back in action in this capacity.

There is still a long way to go before preseason games start and before the regular season starts. Fans also should be hesitant in getting too excited after just one practice as every team in the NFL is going to look sharp in practice.

That being said, there are several takeaways from the first day of training camp that absolutely should be exciting for fans. Let's dive into those exciting takeaways that have kickstarted this 2023 journey with a bang.

Chargers training camp takeaway No. 1: J.C. Jackson is healthy

J.C. Jackson suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in Week 7 last season against the Seattle Seahawks. This injury is typically a death sentence for football careers and fans expected not to see Jackson back in action until halfway through the 2023 season.

Speculation about his recovery going well filled the spring and summer and to the surprise of many, Jackson was a participant in the first practice of training camp and was not put on the PUP list. This is a massive step for Jackson and if all goes well, he should be ready for Week 1.

The Chargers cornerback room has the potential to be legitimately special with Jackson returning. If Jackson can even be 90% of the corner he was in New England then we could be looking at the best cornerback room in the sport. Michael Davis is an overlooked legitimate CB1 and Asante Samuel Jr. is only getting better as his career develops.

Fans should hope for this clean bill of health to continue but as it stands right now, Jackson is in a great spot.
