2. Chargers may not have the same issues as 2022
The Chargers won 10 games last season and finished four games behind the Chiefs in the process. Los Angeles was able to win 10 games despite the fact that the team dealt with the worst injury luck in the league and also had a bad offensive coordinator that did not maximize Justin Herbert.
All that being said, the Chiefs barely squeaked by in both games against the Chargers. There absolutely is a world in which the Chargers could have been on the winning end of both of those games, which would have won LA the division.
Of course, anything can happen throughout the course of the season but as it stands right now, the Chargers are not expecting to deal with the same issues as last season. Joe Lombardi has been replaced with an offensive coordinator who has piloted one of the best offenses in the sport in recent years. Thus far in training camp, the Chargers have been relatively healthy.
The defense really came around in the second half of the 2022 season for the Chargers. If the team can continue that momentum and actually get contributions from Joey Bosa and J.C. Jackson then the defense is going to look great. With an explosive offense, the Chargers should be one of the better well-rounded teams in the league.
The Chargers would have to beat the Chiefs at least once if not twice, to have any chance of winning the division in 2023. If things continue to go well then it certainly is possible that can happen.
