The Chargers are officially kickstarting a new era with Jim Harbaugh at head coach. While this is going to be a multi-year process to get the team where Harbaugh wants, Chargers fans are still excited for what could be in store in 2024.

After all, the Bolts have one of the most successful head coaches in the league with one of the best quarterbacks in the league. That is a recipe that is bound for success, regardless of what happened last season.

A big variable in how successful the team can be is the schedule. Every great team overcomes any hurdles the schedule throws its way but for a team like the Chargers looking for a rebound, getting a good schedule draw is imperative.

Here is everything Chargers fans need to know about this year's schedule release.

When is the Chargers schedule going to be released?

At the time of writing this, the NFL has not declared a concrete date for the schedule release, just that it will be happening in May. However, we can look at past trends to pinpoint when the schedule might be released this year.

Since the league started making a deal out of the schedule release four years ago, three have been released on the Thursday of the second week of May. If that is once again the case this year, the schedule will be released on May 9.

The one exception was 2021, when the league released the schedule on Wednesday of the second week of May on the 11th. This is by no means a steadfast rule that the league always follows, but all signs are pointing to May 9.

What teams do the Chargers play at home in 2024?

Even before the NFL schedule is announced each team knows who they are playing in the season and where (barring any International games) those games will be. The Chargers' opponents were set in stone as soon as the 2023 regular season ended. Here are the teams they will be hosting at SoFi Stadium:

• Las Vegas Raiders
• Baltimore Ravens
• Cincinnati Bengals
• Tennessee Titans
• New Orleans Saints
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Chargers have a fairly easy set of home games all things considered. Kansas City, Baltimore and Cincinnati are the only very tough games in this bunch. In the rest, the Chargers will likely be favored.

What teams do the Chargers play on the road in 2024?

Road games create new variables that do not exist when the Chargers play at home. Factors such as opposing crowds, indoor vs. outdoor, what time of year the game will be played, and if there are any back-to-back road games all matters.

While we do not yet know the answer to when these games will be played and what games will surround them, we do know who the Chargers play on the road and it is not the most daunting slate.

Outside of the Chiefs game, the only somewhat tough games the Chargers have are against the Browns and the Steelers, and even then it is not like those are Super Bowl contenders. Six of the team's nine road games in 2024 will be outdoors.
