Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz have a lot of unanswered questions to address this offseason when it comes to the Chargers roster. While there are quite a few talented players on the team, there are a lot of unknowns that are coming from the previous regime.

Some of those unknowns will or have already taken care of themselves. Draft misses like Kenneth Murray and Tre' McKitty are currently off the books for one reason of another. If the Chargers see something in Murray and want to bring him back they can, but they can also wipe their hands of him.

Then there are the likes of Quentin Johnston, who could benefit from this new regime. It is too soon to call Johnston a bust, even if all the signs are pointing in that direction. There are other players on the roster, though, that do not get that same distinction.

4 Chargers we can safely call busts after the 2023 season:

Isaiah Spiller

Isaiah Spiller is just the most recent example of the Chargers whiffing on a mid-round running back. There was a lot of excitement around Spiller as he was coming into the league thanks to his strong play with Texas A&M. However, he was not ready for the NFL as a rookie and there are no signs that he was ready in his sophomore season, either.

Perhaps his third season could be the turning point but with a new regime in LA there are no guarantees he will even get a chance to prove himself. The Chargers need to reinvent the running game instantly and the team does not have time for Spiller to figure it out after two bad years.

The most revealing proof that Spiller can safely be called a bust is the fact that even when the Chargers had absolutely nothing to play for, the second-year running back still didn't get playing time late in the season. That was the time to see what Spiller had.
