The Los Angeles Chargers have had an incredible offseason where their goal was to solidify the defense in all facets of the game. One of the positions they set their sights on was the defensive line. As the Chargers were one of the worst units in stopping the run last year, bolstering the line with players like Austin Johnson and Sebastian Joseph-Day early in the offseason gives fans a reason to be excited heading into the season.

As we look at the schedule, there are a lot of talented teams that can be very effective offensively. In both the pass and run game, the Chargers' defense will have time week in and week out to prove themselves that they are one of the better defenses in the league.

Here are the best running backs the Chargers face in 2022:

5. James Conner

The number 5 slot is hard to choose from, as when you study the schedule there are lots of guys around the same level such as James Robinson, Melvin Gordon III and Josh Jacobs. However, James Conner beats them out and makes our list at five.

In James Conner's 2021 season in Arizona, he was a touchdown machine while he shared his carries with Chase Edmonds. Now that he is the lone starter, we should see very good production from Conner as he looks to help Kyler Murray out in the run game.

His last season with the Cardinals saw Conner totaling 15 rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns, which made him an incredible red zone threat for the Cardinals all season long. He was not the most explosive runner, as his longest run went for 35 yards and he only averaged 50.1 rushing yards per game last season.
