Chargers-Panthers weather forecast gives clear advantage to one team
By Jason Reed
Update: Prior to kickoff, the chance of precipitation has lowered to 10%. Winds are still forecasted to be 14-24 MPH with 66% humidity at kickoff.
The LA Chargers are looking to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2012 in Jim Harbaugh's first season as head coach. Harbaugh has already changed the culture of the entire organization, so it would make sense that the Chargers can reach a checkpoint that has not been reached in over a decade.
While there are still areas of the roster that can use a boost in talent, it is beyond obvious through just one game that Harbaugh and his coaching staff have elevated this roster. That does not mean the Bolts are going to be perfect in 2024 but they should win more games and will do it their way.
Harbaugh's way is a bit different than what Chargers fans have been used to in recent years, especially considering he still has an elite quarterback under center in Justin Herbert. While it might not be the flashiest, it wins games, and this style will definitely help the Chargers in Week 2 given the weather conditions.
It is a classic late-summer day in Carolina as it is forecasted to be 75 degrees with 78% humidity, making for a sticky environment that is not fun to play in. There is also a 20% chance of rain showers, and most notably, winds of 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 25 miles per hour.
Week 2 weather report favors the Chargers over the Panthers
In previous years this may have been a bad situation for the Chargers to play in. Los Angeles has been so reliant on Herbert in recent years and these conditions are not great for throwing the football. It is going to be sticky, windy and potentially wet.
This bodes well for a team that can pound the rock and simply out-will its opposition. That is exactly the identity the Chargers are looking to build under Harbaugh, as evident by the Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
If the Panthers are going to win this game they need Bryce Young to play one of the best games of his young career. It would also take the Chargers making careless mistakes and turning the football over, which is more likely in the passing game.
If this turns into a game where it becomes will vs. will then the Chargers are going to win. Not only are the Panthers one of a handful of teams with way less talent than the Bolts, but they do not have the same coaching infrastructure in place.
This is a Panthers team that got punched in the mouth and rolled over against a division rival in Week 1. If the Chargers instantly take it to the Panthers, and the conditions start worsening for their troublesome second-year quarterback, then it is hard to see a path to victory for Carolina.
