1. Chargers sign Justin Herbert to a contract extension

Justin Herbert has set the NFL world on fire in his first three seasons with the Chargers and now it is time for the team to pay up what he deserves. Herbert still has one more year under contract as part of his rookie deal as well as his fifth-year option for being a first-round pick.

But there is no reason to wait to make this happen. The market is only going to get more inflated and the team runs the risk of there being tension in the negotiations with Herbert's team. Los Angeles should get this deal done before Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season and take care of its franchise quarterback.

The quarterback market is a bit in flux right now as the Lamar Jackson situation with the Baltimore Ravens is putting everything else on pause. As soon as that situation is resolved and the Chargers have a better idea of what the market it then we should see deals for Herbert and Joe Burrow happen.

It would be extremely unlikely that Herbert plays for another NFL team in the immediate future. Elite franchise quarterbacks are hard to come by and NFL teams know that. When push comes to shove, the Chargers will undoubtedly do whatever it takes to keep Herbert in LA.

But it would benefit the team to get a deal done before the Bengals agree to an extension with Burrow. Whichever team is second is naturally going to have to pay more, making it harder to build out a roster in the future.
