Why the Chargers will definitely have the league's best offense in 2022
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers were one of the most explosive offensive teams in the league last season. Led by Justin Herbert and an aggressive head coach in Brandon Staley, the Chargers could hang with the best of them when it came to an offensive shootout.
The problem was that the team also had one of the worst defenses in the league, which is why the main focus this offseason was on building up that side of the ball.
While most of the focus may have been on the defensive side of the ball, the Chargers still enter the 2022 in a great position offensively. In fact, when the dust settles, the Chargers are going to end up staking claim in having the best offense in the entire sport.
3 reasons why the Chargers will definitely have the league's best offense in 2022:
1. Justin Herbert's second season in the offense
Justin Herbert has not had the same offensive coordinator/system since he was in high school. Just think about that. Herbert is out here setting new NFL records for young quarterbacks despite having to essentially learn a new playbook every single season. That is how talented he is.
Herbert is entering his second season in this Joe Lombardi offense and it is going to pay dividends. Not only is Herbert more comfortable in calling the offense, but he has that experience under his belt to help read defenses and become a more well-rounded quarterback simply by experience.
Plus, history is on Herbert's side when it comes to him being in his second season under Brandon Staley. There are a lot of examples of young quarterbacks doing great in their second season with their head coach and making deep runs because of it.
Joe Burrow and Zac Taylor, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson, Jared Goff and Sean McVay, Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll. Even when the quarterbacks weren't very talented they had good results.
Herbert is going to climb yet another level personally in 2022 and the offense is going to climb with him.
