Chargers Game Sunday: Chargers vs Washington odds and prediction for Week 1 NFL game
By Jason Reed
The NFL is finally back as the LA Chargers head to FedEXField to take on the Washington Football Team in Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season.
This is a compelling matchup that pits one of the league's best young defenses against what projects to be one of the league's best young offenses. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year vs. the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year. The old veteran coach in Ron Rivera vs. the brand-new head coach in Brandon Staley.
It is sure to be an entertaining game and one that the Bolts will hopefully take the W in. Even more important is taking home the victory and staying healthy.
We got some practice in the preseason and now it is time to put our football knowledge to the test with this week's betting lines.
Chargers vs. Washington Football Team odds for Week 1:
According to WynnBET, this game is a pick'em. Neither team is getting any points on the spread, which is telling. Typically, it is accepted that the home team gets an automatic three points for being at home. So we can theorize that the Chargers are viewed as three points better because of the pick'em.
The odds on the pick'em is -110 for both sides (it takes a $110 bet to win $100). The over/under for the game is set at 44.5 points, both sides of that line also being set at -110.
Chargers injury report vs. Washington Football team Week 1:
The biggest injury that the LA Chargers are dealing with is Bryan Bulaga's hip flexor. Bulaga has been limited in practice and while the team has been optimistic in what it has said, it would be surprising to see him play, quite frankly. Storm Norton would fill in at right tackle for Bulaga.
Cornerback Ryan Smith was also placed on the Injured Reserve, although that is not going to have a big impact on Sunday's game.
Chargers vs. Washington Football Team prediction for Week 1
Washington's defense should be respected and FedExField certainly scares me as a fan as it is known for causing injuries in players. That being said, I do not expect Brandon Staley to ask the team to do too much in this game and I don't think we are going to see the best version of this team in this one.
That being said, I still find it hard-pressed to see Ryan Fitzpatrick beating this new-look defense. Keenan Allen has a big day lined up against Kendall Fuller and the Chargers escape with a 23-17 win.
I am taking Chargers (-110) and under 44.5 points.
