Chargers news: Brandon Staley provides injury update for Josh Palmer

Chargers fans have not seen Josh Palmer on the field since Week 8 when the Bolts hosted the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. Wednesday marked one month since Palmer was last in action after being placed on the IR and head coach Brandon Staley provided an update.

This isn't really the update that Chargers fans were hoping to hear. Based on how the team handled Palmer's injury before he was placed on the IR, many assumed that it was not inherently season-ending. But with Staley just saying it is possible that he returns, it does not look like the odds are in Palmer's favor.

This has really hurt the Chargers' offense as Palmer stepped into the X receiver role with Mike Williams out for the year. With Palmer out, the Chargers have turned to Quentin Johnston in that role and it simply has not worked.

What makes this frustrating is that the Chargers put Palmer in a situation to get hurt more severely. Palmer was questionable leading into the Bears game and it was very obvious that he was dealing with a knee injury.

Instead of taking the cautious approach and sitting Palmer against the worst team the Chargers will play all year, Staley opted to play Palmer. It took less than one quarter for Palmer to re-injury the very same knee and even after that, the Chargers put him back in the game in a blowout!

Exactly one week later Palmer was placed on the IR ahead of what was the most important stretch of the season for the Chargers.
