With the 160th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Jack Jones, CB, Arizona State

As Brandon Staley said himself, as long as he is the head coach of the LA Chargers the team is going to be looking to add cover corners. Drafting a cornerback may not be a pressing need after signing J.C. Jackson but the team is almost undoubtedly going to still take a corner at some point in the 2022 NFL Draft.

If the Bolts trade back and pick up extra capital then they could take a corner even earlier than the fifth round. However, with their current slate of picks, this seems like the most realistic place to take a corner and they get a talented one in Jack Jones.

Jones is the ideal type of corner for the Chargers to bring in to be the CB4 on the depth chart. He is a bit undersized, which limits his draft value, and he also does not project to be great in the run game. Bigger and stronger NFL receivers could simply out-muscle Jones until he adds functional strength in the NFL.

His strengths is what the Chargers should be looking at, though. Jones showed really good instincts in coverage and would be excellent as a cover corner in Staley's man scheme. He can play both inside and outside and is the perfect depth corner to move around the coverage in nickel and dime situations.

Tevaughn Campbell is still the team's fourth option at corner, which is a bit concerning. The Chargers should be looking to add depth with a corner like Jones as well as a veteran depth option for cheap. A selection like this is key if Brandon Staley's defense is going to play to its potential.
