With the 79th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Calvin Austin, WR, Memphis

A lot of people want the Chargers to take a receiver with the 17th overall pick. If Garrett Wilson fell to the team then I am game for that. If not, I would rather see the team take a different position. Part of the reason why is because of Calvin Austin, who falls to the Chargers at 79 in this mock draft.

Austin lit up the NFL Combine with some of the most impressive measurements we have ever seen. There has been some talk about the Bolts adding speed to the receiver room that also can add a YAC ability and that is exactly what Austin would bring with his 4.32 40-yard dash.

Austin, standing in at five-foot-nine, would be a slot option for the Bolts in the passing game. The Chargers would not use Austin out-wide much unless they were designing underneath routes for him in a four/five receiver grouping. He would primarily play the slot, allowing Joshua Palmer to get more reps on the outside, where he is more comfortable.

Austin's athleticism also makes him a candidate to help in special teams, which might be needed if the team does not re-sign Andre Roberts this offseason. The Memphis receiver could also add some depth in the running back room as a gadget player as well.

While he would not be a traditional RB2, the Chargers could get really creative by giving him looks in the backfield as a speed option. With this third-round pick, the Bolts could check three boxes of needing speed, needing a returner and needing depth at running back.
