Chargers 7-round mock draft following the 2024 NFL Combine
By Jason Reed
Chargers draft RB Braelon Allen with 106th pick
Blake Corum might feel like the obvious selection for the Chargers but the team might be better off waiting until day three to take a running back. With Oregon's Bucky Irving testing worse than expected, the new target that Chargers fans may prefer is Braelon Allen.
Allen did not run the 40-yard dash at the combine but he was still able to showcase his athleticism in front of NFL coaches and scouts. There are very few running backs who are as big as Allen who can move like him. If there was ever a running back to excite new offensive coordinator Greg Roman, it is Allen.
Chargers draft C Drake Nugent with 139th pick
The Chargers need to take a center in the 2024 NFL Draft and this selection doesn't necessarily have to do with combine testing, but with Drake Nugent's ties to the coaching staff. Nugent was a very important member of the Michigan offensive line that Harbaugh is familiar with and can coach up at the NFL level.
Luckily for the Chargers, a team does not have to spend premium draft capital in order to bring in a viable center. Will Nugent be Corey Linsley right away? Not at all. But he can be better than Will Clapp and is still someone who can develop nicely with the right coaching.
