Khalil Mack

There is a very good chance that the Chargers cut Mike Williams and that he is going to be on a different team in 2024. There is probably a 100% chance that the team is going to cut Khalil Mack next season and that he will find another team as a result.

The Chargers trading a second-round pick for Khalil Mack is interesting in hindsight. On one hand, Mack did play well with very little help on the defensive line last season while Joey Bosa was hurt. On the other hand, the Chargers probably could have matched his production at a much cheaper cost both financially and with the draft capital it took.

Regardless, he played well enough to trust in him for the 2023 season but fans should not be surprised if there is regression in his game. NFL players can drop off at any point at time and at 32 years old, Mack certainly is a candidate to drop off.

Even if he plays as well as he did in the 2022 season, there is no way the Chargers can justify keeping him another year. Mack is on the books for a $38.5 million cap hit in 2024, which is the largest on the entire team. If the Chargers cut him they would save $23.25 million against the cap.

It will be time to move on and give Tuli Tuipulotu a chance to start on the edge in 2024 and beyond. If the Chargers do not think he is ready yet then a first-round edge rusher will be the biggest need in the 2024 NFL Draft.
