Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh closes Michigan chapter with must-see tattoo
By Jason Reed
Jim Harbaugh's coaching decision was one of the biggest stories in the football world over the winter. Harbaugh ultimately opted for a return to the NFL, accepting the LA Chargers head coach job just weeks after winning a National Championship with Michigan.
Despite all of the controversy in his last season at Michigan, Harbaugh accomplished what he set out to do when he agreed to coach his alma mater. Harbaugh not only brought relevance back to the program, but led Michigan to its first true National Championship in over 60 years.
Harbaugh might be entering a new chapter of his coaching career but he will always be remembered as a Michigan football legend. To commemorate all that he accomplished in Ann Arbor, Harbaugh stayed true to his promise to get a tattoo if Michigan went 15-0 and won the National Championship.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh stays true to his promise with Michigan tattoo
Jim Harbaugh definitely is not the type of person that anyone would expect to get inked up but everyone knows that he is a man of his word. After winning it all with Michigan, there was no other path for Harbaugh than to get this tattoo.
And of course, because he is Jim Harbaugh, he had to drop a Harbaughism while getting the tattoo. Some people would crumble to the pain while getting their first tattoo — not Harbaugh. While getting inked for the first time in his entire life, Harbaugh made sure to share that he is "impervious to pain".
Never change, Harbaugh. Never change.
Now Harbaugh's focus turns to accomplishing the only thing that has alluded him in his football career: a Super Bowl. Perhaps Harbaugh needs to make the same promise with his new Chargers players that he did with his old players at Michigan; that he will get a tattoo if the Chargers can ever lift the Lombardi trophy.
A lightning bolt with the team's record would look really great on Harbaugh's other arm, and would be the perfect way for the legendary head coach to cherish his accomplishments. If all goes as planned, this will be the first of two tattoos for Harbaugh.
