He did it again. After a 10-carry, 135-yard outburst in the season opener, LA Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins turned in another fantastic game in the team's 26-3 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Dobbins carried the ball 17 times for 131 yards with a touchdown. The former Ohio State Buckeye firmly established himself as the lead back in Los Angeles and if he can stay healthy, Dobbins will also cement himself as one of the best signings of the offseason.

The former Raven landed on the Chargers thanks to his previous ties to general manager Joe Hortiz, who was hired in early 2024 to spearhead the roster building alongside Jim Harbaugh. Hortiz spent two decades in the Baltimore Ravens' scouting department, so he was very familiar with Dobbins' potential.

Hortiz is also familiar with Dobbins' injury history and his heart may have stopped when Dobbins found the endzone for his second touchdown of the year; not because he was excited about the play, but because Dobbins decided to do a front-flip somersault into the endzone. Hortiz does not want to see Dobbins do that again.

J.K. Dobbins is one of several great Chargers additions by Joe Hortiz

Dobbins headlines a group of productive additions Hortiz made this offseason and the Chargers' GM definitely does not want that to change. If Dobbins can continue being the engine for the Chargers' offense in this way then the Bolts are going to be a very hard team to beat.

Dobbins is the lead back ahead of Gus Edwards, who is another savvy addition from Hortiz. Edwards may not have the production numbers that Dobbins has but he has been a valuable short-yardage back for the Bolts this season.

Hortiz also signed cornerback Kristian Fulton, linebacker Denzel Perryman, center Bradley Bozeman, and tight ends Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst, among others, this past offseason. The Chargers GM also seems to have hit on his first three picks with the Bolts as Joe Alt, Ladd McConkey and Junior Colson are all productive players already.

The Chargers are 2-0 for the first time since 2012 not just because of Dobbins' efforts to be the engine of the offense, but because all of the savvy additions that the front office made have been working out.

So yes, J.K., please listen to your general manager and don't hurt yourself flipping into the endzone. Chargers fans don't want to see these good vibes end anytime soon.
