2. Drue Tranquill

Drue Tranquill is arguably the biggest free agent the Chargers have this offseason and certainly is the most important defensive free agent that the team has. Tranquill stepped up in a huge way in 2022, putting together a career season for the Bolts.

The only problem is that with a career year comes a career payday and the recent contract projections for Tranquill are not great news for the Bolts. If Tranquill gets what the experts are projecting then the Chargers will not be able to re-sign their homegrown linebacker.

Tranquill should be a target for any team that needs linebacker help and the Dolphins are certainly on that list. The team's current inside linebackers are Elandon Roberts and Jerome Baker, both of which are worse than Tranquill.

Miami would benefit from adding an experienced leader in the defense and Tranquill would likely get the stamp of approval from Brandon Staley to Vic Fangio. As the Chargers' green dot last season, he proved that he can be a leader on the field on top of being just a good linebacker.

Miami may not be interested in paying a potential premium for a linebacker when they could try and draft one in the 2023 NFL Draft. But if they are willing to pay, Tranquill is someone with ties to this coaching staff that is used to playing in this defensive style. He makes the most sense for Miami in that regard.
