Free agency is right around the corner and it is going to be very interesting to see what the Chargers do. As it stands right now, the Chargers are over the salary cap and signing any free agents seems to be out of the picture. But with a few small moves, the Chargers can create enough cap space to get under the cap and have the room to sign a few players.

Those players are going to have to come at a low cost, though. Even if the Chargers create enough space to be active in free agency, they are not going to create enough space to sign and big-name players; so let's stop with the Saquon Barkley jersey swaps.

There are a lot of low-cost free agents that the Chargers can sign at each position of need. To simplify the list, we are only going to include one low-cost free agent per position of need.

5 low-cost free agents the Chargers can sign:

Maurice Hurst

Not only is Maurice Hurst intriguing because he is a low-cost free agent but he is also intriguing because of his ties to Jim Harbaugh. Hurst played for Harbaugh at the University of Michigan and was a well-touted prospect heading into the league thanks to his play at Michigan.

Hurst has a lot of potential as a pass-rushing interior defensive lineman and when he has been healthy in his career he has proven that he can make a difference. The only problem is that Hurst has been unable to stay healthy, hence why his cost is going to be so low this offseason.

All that being said, Hurst is worth the gamble considering he will likely get a league minimum deal in free agency. While he might not be someone who ends up playing every down of defense for the Chargers, he can add to a dynamic pass-rushing frontline alongside Morgan Fox on the inside.
