Chargers grade for signing Poona Ford: C

The Chargers added nose tackle depth with a cheap free-agent signing in Poona Ford. Ford definitely is not a household name and most Chargers fans who are reading this likely have never heard of him before.

Ford is a depth guy through and through as he is not someone who should be starting and playing significant snaps for the Chargers. Last season was pretty rough for Ford, but there are some decent years of his career to fall back on.

Ford was actually an exceptional run defender in the first three years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks but it has only gotten worse and worse as time has gone on. The Chargers are hoping they can find some of that run-blocking potential in LA.

Chargers grade for signing Troy Dye: B

Linebackers are leaving the Chargers like they are going out of style and the team added one linebacker who will at least replace Amen Ogbongbemiga. Troy Dye is reuniting with Ryan Ficken in Los Angeles and he should play a key role as a special teams player for the Bolts.

Dye is not someone who is going to revolutionize the defensive side of the ball and if he is playing a big share of the defensive snaps then it is probably an issue. That being said, he is a very good special teams player and we all know how important that side of the ball really is.
