Chargers fans are blessed when it comes to the quarterback position. The last three quarterbacks to start for the Chargers (not counting Tyrod Taylor's one game) are Justin Herbert, Philip Rivers and Drew Brees. That is a laundry list of elite quarterbacks.

Rivers became the greatest quarterback in franchise history during his 14 years as a starter and while he never made it to the Super Bowl, he still is one of the most beloved players in franchise history. Him leaving after the 2019 season had to happen but was still extremely sad for the fanbase.

Making it better was the fact that fans instantly got to turn around and watch Justin Herbert set the NFL on fire. Herbert has broken just about every record a quarterback through two seasons can break and it is clear that the franchise is in great hands and is already a Super Bowl contender once more.

Herbert and Rivers never crossed paths, though, and never talked publicly about each other until recently. Rivers recently made his first comments about Justin Herbert and how he is rooting hardcore for him and the Chargers to succeed, and now, Herbert has returned the favor with a heartwarming message of his own.

The Chargers need to get Philip Rivers involved somehow with Justin Herbert.

Justin Herbert is obviously doing just fine as a professional quarterback but there is still a lot he can learn from Philip Rivers. Brandon Staley and the Bolts have welcomed other veteran players to camp in the past, such as Drew Brees, and it is interesting that Rivers has not had any sort of connection with the team to this point.

He did leave the door open to returning to the league last season but ultimately said no to the New Orleans Saints, so maybe that is why. Perhaps the Chargers and Rivers are waiting until Rivers officially hangs it up, although that seems pretty much official at this point.

Rivers does not have to be on the Chargers staff but it would be nice to see him come out and get the same kind of treatment that the likes of LaDainian Tomlinson and Shawne Merriman have. Rivers is the greatest quarterback in franchise history. Getting him in front of Justin Herbert would be awesome for Herbert and especially awesome for the fans.

Maybe that connection can be made in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders. While it likely won't happen as it would have been announced by now, the Chargers have the absolute perfect send-off they can give Rivers in Week 1 against the Raiders.
