The Denver Broncos land a fringe first-round defensive back

The Denver Broncos admittedly do not have many holes on the roster when it comes to the starters in 2022. Denver's depth should be a bit concerning as they do not have a deep roster, but when it comes to the baseline starters, they have one of the best rosters in the entire NFL.

Patrick Surtain is the team's CB1 and is one of the best young corners in the game and could be one of the five-best corners in the league in 2022. It is a bit rough for Denver in the secondary outside of Surtain and the team would really benefit from landing a true blue-chipper in the draft.

This draft class has some serious talent at the top and a crop of fringe first-rounders in that next tier. After that crop of fringe first-rounders it does fall off a bit and if all of those defensive backs are taken early then the Broncos may not get the true blue-chipper that they need.

However, as we see every single year there are always prospects that fall farther than expected in the draft. Heck, not a lot of people were expecting Asante Samuel Jr. to fall all the way to the Bolts at 47 last year and that is exactly what happened.

There is absolutely a possibility that someone like Roger McCreary or Jalen Pitre fall to the late second round for the Broncos to select, giving Surtain a nice young complement in the secondary to make the Broncos even tougher to beat.
