The LA Chargers had the unenviable task of cutting the roster from 90 players down to 53 on Tuesday. Los Angeles had to make several tough decisions but when the dust settled, fans were mostly happy with the team's initial 53-man roster.
The Chargers are not done addressing the 53-man roster, though. There is still potential for the Bolts to upgrade the backup quarterback position via trade as well as make additions via the league's waiver wire.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh and Jim Hortiz took advantage of the latter on Tuesday, claiming someone Harbaugh is very familiar with from his time in college. Los Angeles officially claimed running back Hassan Haskins after he was waived by the Tennessee Titans. Haskins played college ball at the University of Michigan.

Editor's note: The Chargers officially waived JT Woods to make room for Haskins.
Haskins was a pivotal member of the Michigan Wolverines and was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft because of his potential. Haskins has not been able to carve out a consistent role with the Titans thus far in his career, as he has only carried the ball 93 times for an average of 3.7 yards in his NFL career thus far.
Haskins did not play at all in his sophomore season as he was placed on the IR before the season began. After being placed on the IR, Haskins was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List for a domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend. Haskins and his ex-girlfriend were arrested in June 2023 and Haskins was initially charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. The charges were dropped in September 2023.
Haskins will likely play a special teams role with the Chargers. The former Wolverine played 234 special teams snaps in his rookie season with Tennessee. Isaiah Spiller, who was cut by the Chargers, was getting first-team special teams snaps during training camp and in the preseason. Haskins will likely replace that role.
The Chargers have to waive a player to make room for Haskins on the 53-man roster. With four running backs already on the roster, veteran Jaret Patterson is the most likely to be waived to make room.
Patterson was one of the most active backs during the preseason but did not necessarily thrive with the Chargers. He carried the ball 17 times for 75 yards with no touchdowns.
