The LA Chargers have to cut the roster all the way down to 53 players by the Tuesday deadline. While the cuts are not official until 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday, the Chargers have already started to trim down the roster with several players getting waived.
Los Angeles is not alone as the rest of the league is starting to trim down rosters as well. There were a lot of early cuts that hit the waiver wire on Monday with certain players being potentially interesting additions for the Chargers.
The Chargers would have to free up space by waiving players that would have made the 53-man roster in order to make room for these players. There is a case to do that for each of these players.
3 already cut players the Chargers could claim off waivers:
Dennis Kelly, OT
The Philadelphia Eagles have so much offensive line depth that they were able to cut several offensive linemen. One of those offensive linemen was Dennis Kelly, who Chargers fans previously swooned over in free agency.
The Chargers' starting offensive line is set in stone and projects to be one of the best in the entire league. However, there are depth concerns with Foster Sarell and Zack Bailey not being the most reliable backup options at the tackle position.
It would really benefit what is a really young offensive line group to bring another veteran into the fold. Kelly is not going to come in and light the world on fire but as a swing tackle, he is more than qualified to give the Chargers exactly what they need.
If the Bolts were to bring Kelly in then Bailey would likely get the boot despite his somewhat promising play in the third preseason game of the year vs the 49ers.
