2. Derwin James

We absolutely need Derwin James to get back to being himself if this defense is going to turn around in 2024.

Moving him to linebacker was a concept I wasn't too against before the next coaching regime was made official, but now with Harbaugh and Minter locked up, I believe Derwin is going to be able to stay at safety and regain his form.

Minter has extensive experience coaching the safety position. There's no doubt in my mind he's going to be able to get Derwin into much better positions to succeed than the previous regime had him in.

That'll most likely involve more blitz packages featuring the safety position, and that'll be a great thing for a player like Derwin who would benefit from playing more downhill.

Derwin is a super aggressive attacker of the football. He just needs the confidence again that he can play that aggressively and still have the support behind him in the secondary. A Harbaugh/Minter defensive scheme should be able to get that done for him. I think Derwin James might benefit the most on this entire Chargers team from the new coaching regime.
