The LA Chargers have one of the best quarterbacks in the entire sport in Justin Herbert and still don't have the best quarterback in the AFC West. Los Angeles unfortunately has to play Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs twice a year, which has made things very difficult over the last half-decade.

Thankfully, the rest of the division has not been able to figure out the quarterback position. The Denver Broncos failed with a disastrous Russell Wilson trade while the Las Vegas Raiders have circled the mediocrity wagon going from Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo to Gardner Minshew.

Both the Raiders and Broncos are likely going to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft but neither team is in a position to land one of the top options. Thus, both teams are going to be left to choose from the lower-tiered options, which could create some truly hilarious situations for Chargers fans.

In fact, the quarterback most connected to the Broncos this offseason will give Chargers fans quite the laugh. As it stands right now, the Broncos are the favorites to draft Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.

Broncos drafting Bo Nix would be comedy gold for Chargers fans

This does not necessarily guarantee that the Broncos would draft Bo Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft but the team might not be able to get him in round two. If Denver were to end up with Nix as the team's quarterback when there are so many other options then it would have to be considered a disappointment.

Of course, Broncos fans would spin this in a positive way if the team were to end up with Nix but Chargers fans would be able to see right through that bias. Nix is not someone who moves the needle as a quarterback prospect. It is hard to see any path in which he doesn't flame out and lose his starting job after two years in the league.

It took Nix until his fifth season in college football to have a season that was actually worthy of draft speculation. Prior to that, Nix's college career was trademarked by disappointing play and not showing up against top-tier opponents.

Sure, his numbers looked great for Oregon last season, but he never really played a defense that was worthy of giving him fits. Nothing he saw in 2023 is going to prepare him for what an NFL defense is going to look like. Once he makes that jump, he will likely look a lot more like the Auburn version of himself than the Oregon version.

Nix is not a franchise guy, plain and simple. If the Broncos convince themselves of yet another mediocre quarterback to be the franchise guy then it will just reset the cycle of failed expectations in Denver.

And for Chargers fans who once felt like they were the ones missing out when Payton went to Denver, this is hilarious.
