Bo Nix's bad play (and worse postgame comments) is comedy gold for Chargers fans
By Jason Reed
After two awful years of Russell Wilson, the Denver Broncos pivoted and drafted Oregon quarterback Bo Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Denver was optimistic that Nix could have the same kind of impact a fellow Oregon alumni Justin Herbert has had on the LA Chargers.
Nix has not even been on the same planet as rookie-year Herbert through his first two starts with the Broncos. Denver is 0-2 and has scored 26 total points in Nix's first two starts. After a strong preseason may have built some concern, the Broncos do not appear to be a threat to the Chargers in the AFC West after all.
Watching this situation unfold has given Chargers fans even more joy on top of the joy of being 2-0 on the young season. As if the Broncos' bad play with Nix has not been enough, the rookie has given Chargers fans even more to laugh about with his responses to the media.
Watching Bo Nix on the Broncos has been comedy gold for Chargers fans
You have to respect the honesty of Nix, who put it in very simple terms why he threw an interception that completely tilted the game against the Steelers in the second half. With four interceptions already in two games, Nix may be answering more questions this season in this manner.
Nix is not letting his high interception count through two games derail how he feels as an NFL quarterback, however. When asked about his confidence after a 0-2 start, Nix boldly proclaimed that his confidence is, "bigger than football."
It takes a lot to be super confident after the start to the season he has had, so we applaud Nix for that.
Heading into the season the Broncos appeared to be a potential challenger for the Chargers for a playoff spot in the AFC. With how Nix played in the preseason, there were plenty of people who thought Denver could improve by one or two wins from last season and be in the hunt.
Now, the Broncos look like a team that might be a trap game for the Chargers, not a team that will actually be competing for a spot in the playoffs. It would take a drastic improvement from Nix to get to that point and that may not be possible in year one.
The easier the AFC West can be the better it is for the Chargers. Thankfully, Nix and the Broncos are helping clear the path for the Bolts to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs atop the division.
