Chargers' best fourth-round running back: MarShawn Lloyd

The Chargers have two picks in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft that are just five selections from each other. Even though the team brought in Dobbins last week, don't be surprised if the Chargers use one of these picks to take a running back for the future.

If so, the best back that the Chargers can reasonably expect to fall to the fourth round is USC's MarShawn Lloyd. Lloyd is projected to fall to day three of the draft and barring a surprise, should be available when the Chargers are on the clock with the 105th pick.

Lloyd has ties to the Chargers as USC's former running backs coach Kiel McDonald left the Trojans to join Harbaugh's staff this offseason. As Joe Hortiz has proven this offseason, existing connections are very important to this regime and that gives Lloyd a good chance of being drafted by the Bolts.

Lloyd is a bit on the smaller side and showcases a similar shiftiness as Wright. In terms of a pure logistical fit, adding a running back with Lloyd's skillset makes a lot more sense than adding someone with Audric Estime's skillset.

Estime has become the most talked about mid-round running back this year as he is as physically impressive as it comes. That being said, the last thing the Chargers need to do is draft another bigger, slower running back. With Edwards already on the roster, that would be a bit repetitive.
