The Los Angeles Chargers are in desperate need of a win to keep pace in the AFC playoff race when they take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

This is the second of three primetime games in four weeks for the Chargers, who played the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Week 6 and will take on the New York Jets on MNF in Week 9.

Los Angeles is favored in this matchup with the Bears, who won’t have starting quarterback Justin Fields due to a thumb injury. Does that make this a matchup where the Chargers can turn things around, especially on the defensive side of the ball?

Here’s a look at the latest odds and my prediction for the final score in this matchup.

Bears vs. Chargers odds, spread and total

Los Angeles Chargers score prediction

The Chargers are 8.5-point favorites in this game with a total set at 46.5. This means that oddsmakers are expecting a decently high-scoring game, but they also predict that the Chargers will win by more than a touchdown.

Los Angeles is just 2-4 this season, and the team has won by four and seven points in its two wins. Despite that, I think this is a game that the Chargers should win fairly easily.

Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent is making just his second career start, and while Los Anglees hasn’t been good defensively this season – ranking 31st in yards per play allowed – the Bears have been awful as well.

The bright side for the Chargers? They have the better quarterback in Justin Herbert.

I expect Herbert to dice up this Chicago secondary that is allowing the fourth most passing yards and second most passing touchdowns in the NFL this season. With Eddie Jackson questionable, the Bears could be down another key player in the secondary as well in this game.

I don’t trust the Bears offense to score a ton with Bagent, even though he was serviceable against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.

Let’s bet on the Chargers making a statement and inching closer to .500 on the season.

Final score prediction: Chargers 31, Bears 16
