For the first time since 2012, the LA Chargers have kickstarted training camp and Keenan Allen is not with the team. After an 11-year run with the Bolts, Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round pick after he reportedly refused to take a restructured pay cut like Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack.

Allen is joining one of the most exciting teams in the league with real expectations for the 2024 season. First-overall pick Caleb Williams is leading the team under center and has a fantastic weapons cast consisting of Allen, D.J. Moore, ninth-overall pick Rome Odunze, D'Andre Swift, Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett.

Allen seems to really be enjoying himself in Chicago, which is still painful to see for Chargers fans who thought he would be a Bolt for life. With training camp officially underway, fans now have to see highlight-reel plays from Allen and Williams that only twist the knife deeper into the nostalgic heart of Chargers fans.

Chargers fans have FOMO after Keenan Allen-Caleb Williams clip from Bears training camp

For many years the Chargers were the team getting perfectly-timed routes and absurd catches like this from Allen. Now, another team is going to benefit from his inherent ability to get open and it does give Chargers fans a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out).

Allen was such a reliable target for Justin Herbert in his four seasons in the league as the two built up a serious rapport with each other. Herbert leaned on Allen a lot in the passing game and that peaked in 2023 when Allen was on pace for a career year until Herbert got hurt.

Now Herbert has to build up a rapport with other receivers and has to hope they either stay healthy or play above expectations. Meanwhile, Allen gets to play alongside another freak quarterback in Williams, who looks like he can do things only a select few quarterbacks can do (Herbert included).

At the very least, it is nice seeing a fan favorite and one of the best Chargers of all time getting to go to a good situation that does not have a direct impact on the Bolts. The true worst-case scenario would have been Allen joining a division rival, or being stuck on an NFC team with absolutely no future.

Instead, Allen is going to get a chance to contend for a playoff spot on one of the most exciting teams in the league that has absolutely no impact whatsoever on the Chargers. For that reason, Chargers fans don't have to feel too guilty if they are rooting for Allen and the Bears at times in 2024.

Rooting for Allen to succeed is definitely better than sitting on the FOMO, that's for sure. In the best-case scenario, Allen can thrive in his new situation while someone on the Chargers steps up and fills his shoes in 2024.
