2. Morgan Fox
Morgan Fox was one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL in his first season with the Chargers back in 2022. After putting together a strong season on a one-year deal with the team, it was accepted that he would take a pay raise and would likely leave the Chargers prior to the 2023 season.
That did not end up being the case, however, as the Chargers managed to re-sign him on an extremely team-friendly deal. Los Angeles re-signed Fox to a two-year, $7.25 million contract that carried a very small cap hit in his first year with the team.
Fox's cap will increase in 2024 to $4.75 million but that is still an extremely cheap price for someone who knows how to rush the quarterback. Generating pressure on the passer is the most valuable thing a defense can do yet someone who is very good at doing that signed a deal that paid him less than $4 million a year on average.
In terms of cash earnings, Fox will take home $3.5 million from the Chargers in the 2024 season. If Fox replicates his 40 quarterback pressures (according to Pro Football Focus) from the 2023 season then the Chargers will be paying $87,500 per pressure in 2024.
For a multi-billion dollar sports franchise, that is pretty great value. Hopefully, for Fox's sake, he can get what he deserves next offseason.
