The LA Chargers have been pretty active thus far in free agency but have mostly brought back players from last year's team. The rest of the AFC West has also been busy but it has not been anywhere close to the arms race that it was last spring.

There have been some solid additions made in the AFC West that the Chargers will have to overcome (we will dive into those at a later date). However, there have also been some ill-advised signings that Chargers fans can't help but laugh at.

Today, we dive into those signings that are going to be pitched as big difference-makers when in reality, they will not be anything special.

3 awful AFC West signings that Chargers fans can laugh at:

3. Raiders replace Derek Carr with Jimmy Garoppolo

We have not been shy here at Bolt Beat in expressing how hilarious it is that the Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo to take over under center. Raiders fans have not been shy in letting us know how wrong they think we are and that Jimmy G is a great signing for the team.

The fact of the matter is that Jimmy G is simply a worse version of Derek Carr. They both live in that range of mediocre quarterbacks with Carr being near the top of the mediocre QBs and Jimmy G being towards the bottom. Sure, they saved some money, but the idea that this is somehow an improvement is laughable.

Raiders fans will cite his playoff experience as a reason why it is better without realizing the fact that Kyle Shanahan literally took the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft to the NFC Championship Game this past season. Jimmy G got outplayed by Mr. Irrelevant in an offense that is built to make a QB's life easy.

Sure, signing Jimmy G does keep the Raiders from completely bottoming out but they are not winning a playoff game with him under center.
