In the middle of a playoff push, the Los Angeles Chargers just took an embarrassing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11. In a game that they were expected to win, the Bolts were defeated by a brutal score of 35-6.
The Chargers' offense has some level of an excuse for their minimal output. Justin Herbert missed a significant portion of the game with an injury, limiting the unit's ability to put up points. The defense was simply outplayed, allowing the Jaguars to get whatever they wanted all afternoon.
Veteran superstar Khalil Mack didn't mince his words when reviewing his defense's performance after the game.
Khalil Mack tells it like it is after embarrassing Chargers loss
Speaking to the media after the game, Mack needed just three words to sum up his feelings. He said, "I'm pissed off."
Per ESPN Chargers reporter Kris Rhim, he later added, "I don't got no panic in me man. I ain't got no b***h in my blood. So yeah, just got to rally the troops and look at this s**t and stamp it and own it and just get ready for the next one."
There wasn't much else to say about the performance. The Chargers were outplayed from start to finish, allowing more points to the Jaguars than they had to any team so far this season. Jacksonville took control of the game early and never allowed Los Angeles to take it back.
While Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was held to mild production, the Chargers were unable to stop Jacksonville on the ground. They allowed almost 200 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on the day. With that kind of advantage, the Jaguars were in control of the clock, possessing the ball for over 37 minutes compared to the Chargers' 22 minutes.
Under defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, the Chargers have taken on an identity of playing sound defense, headlined by physicality. They lost that identity in this game. Mack's usual ability to shut down runs by setting the edge was washed away as Jacksonville took over with its rushing attack.
Mack and the Chargers will have an opportunity to get back on track in their next game as they take on a struggling Las Vegas Raiders offense. In the meantime, they'll need to use the upcoming bye week to diagnose the issues that surfaced against Jacksonville and ensure that fans don't have to endure another game like this.
